The head of VGTU Student representatives’ photo club “Fotyvas” Povilas Janionis says that nowadays, in a similar vain to beforehand, people coming to the Club are willing to gain as much knowledge and experience as possible. “Every time we have a newcomer, I ask same two questions: ‘What do you expect from us?’ and ‘What do you think you could possibly offer us?’. Usually, people want knowledge but when they have to answer about what they can give to us, most of the time they cannot answer. We do not invite professors to join our club because we learn from each other. For us it does not really matter which technique is used by members of the photo club – it can be grandfather’s traditional camera made 50 years ago or the newest photo camera. We take pictures with film cameras and make them ourselves in a traditional way by a miraculous red lamp. It is another special creative process. After all, there was a time when all parents made photographs in a blackout bathroom. The largest part of equipment is brought by members themselves. Photo equipment is very expensive and that is why we do not dare to ask support from the University”.
