Abstract

Different welding methods are used for rail welds in the world. The well-known thermit welding is used in Lithuania as main welding method for railway building and defective rails replacement. This method has high reliability, but welds quality depends on the thermit portion quality and operator work experience. In this work are investigated the problems of thermit welds life liability and main reasons of fracture.
