Analysis of indicators of the information society development

Abstract

The article examines the diversity of concepts of the information society and models of the information society development and raises a problem of the evaluation of the information society development. The number of indicators of the information society development shows that the information society is a complex phenomenon and the evaluation of its development is highly complicated. Some indicators are quite similar, others are unrelated, and therefore it is very difficult to interpret the information reflected by the indicators. The final report of the action plan of the "eEurope +2003" project identifies 58 indicators of the evaluation of the information society development. The present article analyses projects devoted to the evaluation of the information society development: ("eEurope + 2003"; "Digital Lithuania 2001"; "Factors and Impacts in the Information Society: a Prospective Analysis in the Candidate Countries") and different indicators of the evaluation of the information society development. This article presents the results of a research aimed at identifying the main indicators in all groups and subgroups.
