Abstract
The paper deals with the effect of asymmetric character of the Lithuanian railroad freight traffic in western and eastern directions on the selection of optimal locomotive traction. On the basis of analysis of data on freight to over in 1999, it has been concluded that the rational solution is such an allocation of the locomotive power, what would give to the west-bound direction 2.7 times higher power than to east-bound one.
