Abstract
Poverty is one of the most actual problems that face developing and developed countries in the world. The solution of this problem requires purposeful policy of the Government as well as the endeavour of all the citizens. The Government of the Republic of Lithuania accepted the National Action Plan on poverty reduction in Lithuania in 2004. One of the most important conditions for successful implementation of this Plan is observation of poverty prevalence in the country as well as evaluation of social - economic factors having the impact on poverty reduction. The Statistics Lithuania calculates poverty indicators on a scale of the whole country, meanwhile increasing regional differences in Lithuania determine the necessity of poverty calculation in regional (municipal) level.
