Rozwój turystyki na Wileńszczyźnie
Abstract
In units offering accommodation services in Vilnius region in 2004 there were 10 173 beds, which amounts to 53% of overall accommodation services market. The level of occupancy of all units delivering accommodation services in Lithuania was at 23%, and in Vilnius up to 43%. The most part of hotels in Vilnius region is based in Vilnius itself. There are 9874 places. In Vilnius region there are several hundred of leisure-oriented farms, that can provide services for 1452 guests. The majority of such farms is located in Utena county. They are located in the midst of picturesque landscape and close to water (lakes and rivers). Such farms, among other services, offer water sports as well. Farms being close to, big cities (Vilnius, Utena and Alytus) specialize in entertainment services. Starting from 2000 the number of places in leisure-oriented farms increased 4 times, and the number of farms increased by 3 times. The Ministry of Economy of the Lithuanian Republic together with the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences prepared a Long-Term Strategy of Development of Lithuanian Eco¬nomy until 2015. In this strategy, together with other measures, the main goals of tourism policy have been specified, which were more precisely stated in the National Programme of Tourism Development. In the Programme the target regions of tourism development have been specified, among others Eastern Aukštaitija, Southern Dzūkija and Vilnius, Druskininkai and Trakai belonging to the Vilnius Region.
