Antanas Kaupas: įžvalgos dėl nacionalinio identiteto ir socialinės santarvės išsaugojimo =
Abstract
The best conditions for presentation to the world may be ensured only by the existence of an independent state. Lithuania, in aspiring to independence and total welfare, must "follow its own way" and not admire radical ideas which may be, according to him, destructive to the country. Only religion and faith are able to unite people spiritually in this noble deed. So, Lithuanians, according to Kaupas, "must look for happiness on the Christian base". Of course, new values and forms of life shall also be accepted. Not always shall they correspond to the thinking and traditions of the nation. So it is necessary to be ready to evaluate critically and accept them, and also to perceive the price to be paid for this. This price must not be too high, an unbearable burden posing a serious danger to the identity of the nation, the preservation of its self-dependence, historical and cultural values and traditions. These ideas declared by Kaupas have not lost their actuality even today, and have even acquired new meanings.
