Development of public electronic services in Lithuania

Nowadays people cannot imagine their life without information technologies and telecommunications, which give an opportunity to improve the efficiency of the servicesprovided by the public sector and 10 secure transparency of its activities, efficient feedback and new quality of e-services. In December 2002, the Lithuanian Government has approved the E-Government Concept. The objective of the E-Govemment Concept is to develop effective means allowing to adapt public administration to the contemporary demand. After enforcement of the E-Government Concept Lithuania faced another problem: most of state websites provided a lot of important but general and often unnecessary information on different aspects. Such provision of information was not user-friendly and the Government of Lithuania approved the General Requirements on the Websites of State Institutions to standardize information and help users to save their time. The article describes specifics of implementation of the Lithuanian E-Government Concept and the requirements on state institutions websites and presents the results of the research on public e-services.
