Priorities in protecting visual townscape identity of the central area of Vilnius
Abstract
Protection of the visual identity of towns has become an urgent task for municipal authorities. However, great differences in natural and urban morphostructures existing between towns require special examination of individual identity features and a protection strategy for every town. This paper presents overall results of a completed examination which reveal the structure of visual identity of the central area of the city of Vilnius as well as the hierarchy of its elements and the main objectives of its protection.
