Abstract
The key indicators for measuring poverty and the main limitations of them are discussed in the article. The author of the article suggests that poverty measurement based on relative poverty line is not effective in Lithuania because it doesn't show realistic situation on poverty in the country. It is argued that absolute poverty line should be used in underdeveloped countries (as well as in Lithuania) when calculating the poverty level. Absolute poverty is used with an official poverty line, representing the annual income required to allow a family of a given size to purchase the range of goods and services that are seen as constituting the minimum acceptable way of life in the country.
