Vilnius is the capital city of Republic of Lithuania inhabited by 600 thousand people. Inhabitants and politicians of Vilnius have been discussing new mass public transport system for over 30 years. The last attempt by Vilnius municipality aims to produce clear vision (study) for the next 30 years. Public opinion has a great influence to final decision of municipality on new public transport mode. Therefore, inhabitants of Vilnius were involved in the decisions making process and influenced choice of mode from the very beginni ng of the study. During the study main alternatives were evaluated and compared with help of mode ling and socio-economical analysis. That analysis was an instrument to compare advantages and di sadvantages of public transport modes as metro, VAL, tram, ultra, buses and trolleybuses. Simulation of public transport development alternatives were accomplished with VISUM software for 2040.eng
