Intermodalinių terminalų statybos startas

Abstract

Vilniuje ir Kaune sparčiai statomi viešųjų logistikos centrų intermodaliniai terminalai, kurie šiandien yra ambicingiausi Lietuvos transporto sistemos projektai.

In May, 2003 the company AB Lietuvos geležinkeliai (Lithuanian Railways) and the company UAB Fegda, the winner of public procurement tender, signed two contracts: 1) Construction of Intermodal Terminal of Vilnius Public Logistics Centre in Vaidotai Railway Junction, which has to be built within 17 months; 2) Construction of Intermodal Terminal of Kaunas Public Logistics Centre in Palemonas Railway Junction, which has to be built within 14 months. The projects were recognized by the Government of Lithuania as the projects of state significance. In recent years, intermodal transportation is the main development trend for the Lithuanian Railways. Establishment of public logistic centres is the most ambitious project of the transport system in Lithuania. It is beneficial for the country to have public logistic centres in those cities that are crossed by railway lines, since this helps to rapidly and efficiently handle freight.
