| dc.description.abstract | The paper reports short-term test results of 14 ties with bar diameter 8 or 12 mm (reinforcement ratio varied from 0.53 to 3.14%). Current study is focused on two important (but often neglected) issues, which might distort interpretation of test results: 1) the shrinkage effect reducing cracking resistance of RC; and 2) selection of deformation measurement technique. To investigate the shrinkage effect, a part of the specimens was cured at the laboratory conditions, whereas the remaining ties were stored in water. Prior to the tests, measurements of concrete shrinkage were performed to assess the restrained shrinkage-induced stresses in the concrete. To compare results of different measurement techniques, concrete surface and reinforcement deformations were recorded. Comparative analysis indicates noticeable difference in the assessed average deformation response. | eng |
