Abstract
This article analyses ecological problems of urbanization in Lithuania, presents general issues of earth inhabitants growth and emphasizes one of the most important processes affecting nature - urbanization - or concentration of earth inhabitants in cities as one of the most important factors of environment development. The article analyses changes in quantity and density of population in Lithuania during the last century, dynamics in quantity of population in cities during 1959 - 1996 and investigates the main reasons of these processes: growth of industrial production, directing attention to ecologically harmful production. It deals with transport and transportation services and caused by this infringements of ecological equilibrium, investigates problems of flowing waters and atmosphere air cleaning. This article introduces experience of the most developed countries in this sphere and provides for possibilities to solve ecological problems in Lithuania and the immediate tasks. The necessity of human ecological help to all countries of centralized economics is being analyzed in Lithuania among them. These countries have to fight against their backwardness because of irresponsible ecological policy, when processes of urbanization occurred despite of ecological requirements as taking \"ecological credit” from environment, but now it must be repaid with interest.
