A numerical and experimental investigation of a novel design of cross-shaped piezoelectric rotary motor is presented. Design of the motor is based on cross-shaped stator with eight piezo ceramic plates glued on it. Double sided spherical rotor is placed at the center of stator. Operation principle of the motor is based on the first in-plane bending mode of cross-shaped stator. Excitation of the stator is carried out thru four harmonic signals with phase difference by π/2. Numerical investigations revealed that motor operation frequency is 36.4 kHz. Prototype of the motor was made, electrical and mechanical output characteristics of the piezoelectric motor were measured.
