Keleivių vežimo Vilniaus-Kauno geležinkelio trasoje racionalizavimas
Abstract
In this paper the complex study of passenger transportation on Vilnius-Kaunas route, carried out for the first time in Lithuanian railway history, is described. Scientists of Vilnius Technical University together with railway specialists have analysed passenger flows, their distribution as well as public communication problems (more than 80% of passengers have been interviewed). The investigations revealed a number of drawbacks. Every day 4.5-7 thousand of the passengers go onto one direction by Vilnius-Kaunas railroad. 24.8 % of them go to work, 16.8% - to schools or to higher schools, 10.6% - on business trip or on business purposes, 34.7 - for personal aims, etc. 54.6% of the passengers use a single ticket, 17.7% - a student ticket, 11.7% - a season's ticket, etc. Even 46% of the passengers travel on this route 2-7 times per week. Based on the comprehensive research data a new optimal train schedule in accordance with life rhythm and reflecting desires of passengers was made up and introduced. Only 14 pairs of trains run instead of 16 pairs planed before, including 3 express pairs covering the distance by 1 h 15 min (70% of passengers desire from 2 to 5 express trains). Consequently 2 trains have been saved up. Coach numbers in various runs have also been differetiated. Vilnius- Trakai trains have been scheduled before the Vilnius-Kaunas trains therefore unloading the biggest part of intencive passenger flow going to Lentvaris from Kaunas'trains. In trains also appeared attendants etc. Attendants have started to forward the trains, etc. Analogous works have been done on Vilnius-Šiauliai-Klaipėda route, and are in conductance on Vilnius-Turmantas (Ignalina, Utena) route.
