Abstract
A parallel algorithm is applied for 3D calculations of the spatio-temporal structure of the Stokes pulses during the transient SBS, beginning from the noise level of the spontaneous scattering, takinginto account the beam diffraction and the Kerr nonlinearity of the medium. The calculations were performed for the pump pulses of various durations and focusing depths. It has been demonstrated that the widths of the Stokes pulses inside the medium determined by various methods are always smaller than the pump beam radii at the same planes. The calculations have shown that the optical breakdown threshold in the PBS medium can be appreciably lower for the long pump pulses than that for the short pump pulses of the same peak intensivy at the same focusing conditions.
