Kuriant regionų tipologijas valdymo tikslams ieškoma naujų kriterijų ir rodiklių, padedančių atskleisti regionų skirtumus. Vykstant visuomenės ekonominio ir socialinio gyvenimo permainoms su ypač dideliais iššūkiais susidūrė kaimiškų regionų išskyrimo metodikų kūrėjai, nes norint išmatuoti kokybinį skirtumą tarp kaimo ir miesto regionų nebeužtenka gyventojų skaičiaus rodiklių. Todėl regionų tipologijose, siekiančiose atskleisti kaimiškumo aspektą, pirmoje vietoje pagal svarbą atsiranda kriterijai, apibrėžiantys kaimo gyventojų galimybes būti mobiliais, apibūdinantys jų judėjimo srautus ir judėjimo greitį. Judėjimas suprantamas plačiąja prasme, vertinant gyventojų mobilumą važinėjant į darbą, keičiant gyvenamąją vietą, verslo įmonių steigimosi tempus, užimtumo, senėjimo dinamiką ir kitus procesus. Šiame straipsnyje pristatoma Lietuvos regionų tipologija, kuomet kaimiški regionai apibrėžiami ir vertinami kaip kaimo ir regioninės politikos objektas, remiantis regiono atokumo kriterijumi. Atokumas matuojamas važiavimo trukme nuo gyvenamosios vietos iki artimiausio miesto. The rapid development of information and communication technologies implicates fundamental changes in the organization of workplaces. Distance working system more often is applied by considerable number of business enterprises and other organizations permitting their employees to work at home or in some other place, convenient for them. It is predicted that a tendency to return a workplace to the employee’s place of residence would become manifest very strongly in the short term. It is possible to expect that the trend of living in a healthy environment will increase the popularity of distance working system and increase a number of people moving from urban to rural areas. Taking into consideration the above-mentioned factors, the creators of regional typologies state that it was not enough to analyze the role of a city as the coordinating centre. They focused their attention to the formation of networking between smaller settlements. In this case not only monocentric agglomerations, but also polycentric linkages become of importance.
