Abstract
The main aim of the study is to provide a general understanding of the current competence requirements for specialists working in Lithuanian logistics sector. A review of literature on logistician competences was combined with a quantitative survey. A sample of 486 logistics specialists was chosen for a questionnaire research. The results indicated that the most important competences of logisticians are planning, quality assurance and customer relationship management. Obtained results are partially consistent with the results of researches made in the same geographical region. Results of the research of logistician competences in Lithuanian logistics companies suggested that there exist significant differences between importance of competences and gender, education, position of logistician, company's capital origin and number of employees. These findings provide considerable insights to managers and educators of logisticians: it might be useful to differentiate the strengthening of logistician competences in reference to demographical, professional and organisational characteristics.
