Deginimui alternatyvių technologijų taikymas medicininių atliekų tvarkyme
Abstract
There are two types of disposal methods that have been developed for the treatment and disposal of the medical waste stream. They include incineration and non-burn technologies such as autoclave, shredding-chlorination, shredding-heating, radiation, electric arc, pyrolysis, electric beam and others systems. Though medical waste incineration is the most popular treatment method in the world, but a lot of incinerators don‘t satisfy today‘s requirements for incineration process and especialy the requirements for emissions‘ concentrations. For example, in New York and its suburbs during last ten years more than ten incineration facilities were closed because their reconstruction and modern air cleaning equipment installing according to economic calculations turn out to be not practical. Today incineration of 1 t medical waste costs about 1000 Litas. Shredding of the same amount costs three-four times less (250-320 Litas). Shredding reduces volume of the waste 80 - 85 %. The treated waste can be handled as municipal solid waste and can be landfilled or incinerated.
