Abstract
Most research in the field of biosensors during the last decade was focused on biocompatible and more sensitive solutions for glucose measurement. A comparison between state-of-the-art technologies and those that have long been established might give some clues as to which new directions to turn to create more efficient glucose sensors. Within the scope of this review, we cover the use of conducting polymers, conducting polymer nanowires, polymers with embedded metal nanoparticles, polymeric ionic liquid-based structures, carbon nanostructures as well as nanoparticles of other materials.
