Hazard assessment of weather factors for the occurrence of an emergency on the railway

Abstract
The paper discusses an approach to detecting the me teorological factors according to the degree of the ir negative influence on the railway transport safety. The research was based on the study of well -known approaches and methods of risk management to find a possibility of their application to minimize the meteorological hazard on railway transport based on weather conditions monitoring. Assessment criteria for the meteorological risk level evaluation on railway transport were elaborated. The algorithm for quantitative assessment of the meteorological risk on the railway transport was suggested and tested on Latvian Railway data.
