Abstract
Asphalt wearing layer is considered as the most popular solution in design of pavement structure. However, the performance of asphalt strongly relies on both loading and climatic conditions. The loading type and time, gross weight, contact area and pressure onto pavement are the main factors influencing asphalt performance. Analysing climatic conditions, there is emphasized the effect of temperature. The temperature increases, the stiffness of asphalt decreases. The worst situation is in heavy duty areas, where dominates high pressure onto pavement. All these factors induce high shear stresses in asphalt wearing layer and results in imprinted and shoved part of it (in contact area). Consequently, premature failures are observed in asphalt pavements within the first few years after road opening. In order to prevent it, there is given the algorithm for selection of asphalt mixture resistant to plastic deformation.
