Urbanization processes require a development of road transport system as close as possible to buildings so people and goods could fast and easy travel from door to door. Besides the need to increase and optimize existing road transport system capacity, it is necessary to take into account environmental issues that are caused by road transport, especially road transport. Paper presents the first phase of the development of environment-friendly road pavements in Lithuania – asphalt mixtures’ optimization for traffic noise reduction. Development started with design, optimization and laboratory testing of different asphalt mixtures for specific Lithuanian climate conditions. Based on the laboratory testing results, which seemed to be positive and promising, first test sections of conceptual low noise asphalt mixtures (SMA 8 TM, SMA 5 TM) were implemented for further monitoring and analysis under exploitation of real traffic and climate conditions. Paper gives the overview of initial CPX noise measurement results right after construction and provides with the measurements plan.
