Examination of the competitiveness of railway cargo transportation by Eurasian landbridge

Abstract
Nowadays huge amount of goods between Europe and Eastern Asia are transported mostly by maritime transport. To decrease the transportation time and expenses significantly, the demand to explore alternatives of cargo shipping is growing. The aim of this research work is to examine the potential of rail transport mode with the goal to take over noticeable share of the cargo from the maritime transport and air transport. The characteristics of various type transportation are demonstrated through a case study. Comparative analysis of shipping parameters and multi-criteria analysis of Eurasian transport modes is performed. Finally, basic conclusions and recommendations are given.
