Abstract
The paper presents novel GPGPU algorithm for fast DEM computations of granular flows. Modern implementation of the uniform grid method for collision detection significantly speed-ups DEM computations on GPU. The performance of the developed code is evaluated solving applications of gravity packing and hopper discharge. The performance measured on GPU is compared with that attained on CPU for different numbers of particles. The gravity packing of particles is simulated to test the robustness of the developed algorithms in terms of numerical stability. Kinetic energy of particle system decreases due to friction reaching quasi-static conditions. Granular hopper flows are examined computing the discharge rate.
