Abstract
The Law on the Amendment of the Law of Vocational Education in 2007 introduced the dual apprenticeship as alternative pathway to the school-based initial VET in Lithuania. This law defines apprenticeship as a form of organization of vocational education and training executed in the workplace in the enterprise, office, organization, farm or at independent master when the theoretical training can take place at the VET institution or at other school. Dual apprenticeship has been always considered by the policy makers as attractive pattern to follow in reforming the initial VET in Lithuania. However, the social, economical and institutional preconditions present important challenge in designing and implementing of such apprenticeship model.
