National CAD standards and layering
Abstract
Computer-Aided Design (CAD) is a tool for producing the documentation which required for construction and management of building. It is also provides for a common medium of information exchange. The true power and potential of CAD is the ability to re-use and share the information contained within the CAD document. The technics to realizing this potential is common organizing principles of standards for the production of CAD drawings. One of the issues in making efficient use of IT in the design, construction and maintenance of buildings is the sharing of the digital building data across disciplines and lifecycle stages. One technology which enables data sharing is CAD layering, which to be of real use requires the definition of standards.
