Vilniaus miesto planavimo raida: kai kurie estetinių aspektų ypatumai
Abstract
The report aims at a laconic overview of Vilnius city planning development in the European context through emphasis on the aspects of aesthetic and utilitarian principles of city formation in the light of different stages of the Lithuanian history. Urban planners of today apply strategic planning tools, whereas urban development is regulated by flowcharts and indicators. Artistic principles of territory formation are used for planning individual, small sections of the city and for working out development programmes (that are rarely implemented). A purely aesthetic principle of city formation when forming the city as an entirety lost its previous meaning (scopes or a proportion in respect of a territory are reduced). In the current situation, it would be purposeful to analyse the main historic tendencies of city development and subsequences thereof: (1) in the context of city formation ba-sed on strongly highlighted aesthetic principles; (2) in the context of city growth based on utilitarian principles.
