Selection of experimental section for investigation of roads pavement and construction
Abstract
Lithuania has a fairly well-developed network of roads (of sufficient length and density). Yet under the conditions of permanently intensifying traffic (including the heavy-weight vehicles), the actual service life of road pavement has been reducing. Prolongation of the service life of road pavement and its construction requires regular annual evaluations of their state and provisions for prevention of road pavement degradation. It is also necessary to foresee effective measures for timely repair of road sections with highly rundown pavement. The mentioned tasks can be implemented using cheap but rather accurate and operative methods for determining the state of road pavements. Their application is based on the use of mathematical statistical methods. In the present article, we suggest simplifying the evaluation of the state of road pavements not only by application of mathematical statistical methods but also by using rational (close to the possible minimal) length Lr of elementary experimental road sections (allowing operative and accurate assessment of the state of pavement) and by theoretically and practically grounded principles of selection of these sections.
