The paper concerns the present situation of road safety in Vilnius city, the capital of Lithuania. Vilnius has the largest number of vehicles and the largest level of car ownership in Lithuania. The city takes 18, 5 percent of the whole number of Lithuanian vehicles. Vilnius has reached a critical point, therefore, it is necessary to take a series of immediate actions to improve the pedestrian and vehicle traffic safety. The aim of this paper – based on the calculated accident indices to identify the high-risk Vilnius City street segments and to suggest a traffic safety solution model for the reduction of accident rate. This work identifies the most risky Vilnius City streets as well as their segments and suggests a model for determining the efficiency of road safety measures. The model could be used for analyzing all the streets in the City of Vilnius and identifying the priority segments to increase road traffic safety.
