Abstract
Rapid changes and speedy development of technologies, research and measurement methods induce budget institutions and enterprises to work hard in order to deepen employees’ knowledge and skills. Continuous training cannot be realized in spurts and therefore is a long-term process. The institutional framework of professional improvement should secure the sustainability of the staff’s improvement process and should be included into the structure of each institution or service organization. No enterprise would be able to compete successfully in the market unless it invests into staff improvement and/or professional development. This work concerns investigation of needs of specialists of chemistry to their professional development. According to recommendation of scientists a special questionnaire was prepared to evaluate educational needs for specialists in chemical measurement institutions and laboratories. Questions were given to more than 50 chemical institutions that are spread throughout Lithuania. Twenty-two questions were included for the investigation of continuing education forms, its duration and needs. Responses were obtained from 42 specialists. In this publication, some results of the investigation related to the most important continuing education principles have been presented.
