Industrial and utility flue can he treated for particulate and gaseous pollutant removal, using a variety of processes. Among available particulate emission control processes, granular filtration is known for its relatively high collection efficiency for particulates of widely ranging size and for its simplicity in operation. Granular filters may have technical and economic advantages for general gaseous emissions. The aerosol collection efficiency of a granular filter bed is predicted by a semi empirical equation using the method of isolated fibers. Mechanisms for deposition by diffusion, impaction, gravity and interception are examined. The results of theoretical and experimental investigations are compared.
