Increasing level of automobilization, growing transport flows in urban territories and decreasing investment for the development of transport infrastructure are the main barriers for the urban development. The improvement and the development of transport infrastructure on national scale depend on assigned investment and available possibilities to modernize and develop transport sector. Accomplished analysis of evaluation methods of transport infrastructure projects used in foreign countries and Lithuania shows that standardized and united evaluation methods do not exist; however many methods and their modifications are used in transport sector. The assessment of transport projects is very complicated process using different methodology and complexity substantiating their necessity to the society and physical infrastructure. Moreover, there is a problem concerning the assessment of urban (city) and road (suburban territories) transport projects. It is obvious that differences between urban and road transport infrastructure do exist, but Lithuanian practice shows that common methods are used during the process of preparation and evaluation of urban and road transport infrastructure.
