Forecasting of volumes of local and international passenger transportation in negative development conditions

Abstract

Despite of intent and developing technical potential of railway transport operator and persistent improvement of infrastructure, volumes of passenger flows transporting on railways constantly decrease. The attractiveness of railway transport having deep traditions in the country lessens due to unsatisfied passenger needs. The economic crisis had big influence on the activity of railway transport operator creating more transportation problems and decreasing financial possibilities of passengers. Providences and projections of the activity of Lithuanian Railway Company based on the data of accomplished analysis on the economic state are carried out. The analysis of former strategies of transport and railway sector with the determination of their continuity was carried out. Internal and external factors influencing on conditions of present post-crisis situation in passenger transportation are evaluated. Local and international passenger transportation forecasts based on these factors are performed .
