Abstract
After a number of theoretical conclusions and experimental verification, a number of low-capacity glass melting furnace projects were implemented in a number of glass factories. At the "Vilniaus stiklas" glass factory the glass melting furnace differs substantially from the prototype - the minimum amount of glass produced per 1 m2 increased by two times while at the some time 1.15 times less natural gas. These and other improved characteristics were reached by using a new arrangement of elements and burners. Also a new open hearth furnace cooling system was tested, with the purpose of increasing the furnaces exploitation time using in a larger area limited closed channels al the existing air system capacity.
