The report briefly reviews the linear displacement measuring systems and the information that they provide in terms of quantity. It also provides an overview of the features of their scales. The report analyzes the scales used in measuring systems, which give information not only about the main motion, but also about the two straight motion errors in the plane, functional and accuracy parameters. These scales are called the 2D scales. The report gives the analysis of formation methods of such scales and their accuracy, shows the methods and results of the precision experimental research of this process, presents the conclusions about the effectiveness and viability of the methods of separate scale formation. This report presents 2D scale calibration features and new requirements for equipment calibration.
