Fatigue fracture analysis of strength cast iron samples

Abstract

The work presents the results of experimental investigation into cyclic fatigue of strength cast iron (FGS – fonte graphite spheroid). The well-known sorts of cast iron have been modified for getting better mechanical properties and improved resistance to crack formation and development as well as propagation. This material is applied for production of structural elements and for production of new sorts of cast iron ADI. The mechanical properties and the cycle strength of specimens with circular notch of high strength cast iron have been investigated. The fracture analysis of smooth specimens and specimens with concentrator was performed by optical microscope and scanning electron microscope (SEM).
