Comparative analysis of implementation of tramway and metropolitan lines in Vilnius city

Abstract

The paper analyses the main problems of public transport in the city of Vilnius. Possible ways of solutions and improving the means of public transport are suggested. New modes of public transport – tramway or metropolitan – are also proposed. The structure of living and working places of Vilnius inhabitants is analysed. The possible location scheme of new mode transport lines is presented. Technical parameters of tramway and metropolitan network, comparative energy consumption and the efficiency of investment are calculated and compared. The effectiveness of operation of tramway and metropolitan is calculated by three multicriteria evaluation methods and the most efficient mode of urban transport (metropolitan) in Vilnius city is determined according to the set of criteria. Finally, basic conclusions and recommendations are given.
