Analysis of intelligent vehicle systems applications to improve driving
Abstract
The paper investigates possibilities to apply ITS for improving driving parameters. Most of casualties of roads occur due to drivers' actions or reactions to unexpected situations. Therefore improving driving parameters should be treated as utmost necessity towards improving traffic safety situation. According to the numbers of the fatal accidents per 1 million population, Lithuania saw the worst situation among the EU states in 2005 - 221 fatalities per 1 million population. In less than 7 years, situation has changed dramatically leading to success of achieving Verona declaration goal - with a decade from 2001 through 2010 - to halve a number of killed in the roads. Nevertheless, it is still a long way to reach the average numbers of EU states. The goal of traffic safety activity is to avoid the consequences of traffic accidents, and especially the serious injuries and fatalities, as well as to reduce the occurrence of erroneous behavior patterns of traffic participants, so, after estimating the interaction between the traffic safety system elements - analyzing the possible means assisting in the interaction of traffic safety system and enabling to evaluate the efficiency of traffic safety improvement means.
