Abstract
As education methods quickly evolve, and people become ever busier, distance education becomes ever more popular. Having analysed the descriptions of free courses on the Internet, no course in the Java programming language has been found. The course is only offered as a user guide in web pages. Some pages have tests to assess the knowledge learned. But these assessments are not clearly analysed. And neither is their influence on future learning. In the paper the distance education of the Java programming language is dealt with. It is analysed how students assimilate knowledge provided in slides. The way students react to the assessment provided while solving tests is also evaluated.
