Abstract
To maintain safety during winter, deicing salt (sodium chloride) is sprinkled over the roads. The snow, mixed with highway salt, is then cleared by snowplows and usually ends up on the roadside where trees have been planted. On conifers adversely affected by deicing salt, needle shedding is accelerated [Kayama et al., 2003J. Unwelcome results for environment of using maintenance chemical are: damaged vegetation, soil, polluted surface and groundwater, therefore, fauna and people are negative impacted. The aim of this work is to estimate, which species of vegetation (ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.), fescue grass (Festuca pratensis Huds) or bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.)) is most resistant to salt stress.
