The effects of strong electric fields on the resistivity of thin nanostructured La-Ca(Sr)-Mn-O films, deposited on lucalox substrates by a MOCVD technique were investigated by using electrical pulses with pulse lengths of 5 ns, and amplitudes up to 500 V. The influence of film chemical composition is analyzed in order to determine the optimal conditions for the design of protectors against EMP operating at liquid nitrogen as well as room temperatures. It was demonstrated that changing doping material (using Ca instead of Sr) it is possible to reduce threshold voltage and obtain better limiting characteristics at lower pulsed electric field amplitudes.
