The paper aims at developing a technique for ranking residential districts of a city and establishing their priority order based on the criteria of sustainable development. To improve the quality of construction, the innovative methods should be used in building design and construction. The innovations in construction aim to improve the technology and quality of building products to meet the needs of customers. To assess the effectiveness of innovative methods, old and newly built houses and building products should be compared. Several residential districts constructed at different periods of time by various construction methods in Vilnius have been selected for analysis. Sustainability of residential districts is considered from social (living conditions), economic (conditions for business development) and engineering (infrastructure) perspectives. Sets of 22 criteria were generated to describe these aspects. Based on a survey of experts as well as other sources of information, the values and significances of the criteria used in the present analysis were determined. By applying a multicriteria evaluation method COPRAS (Complex Proportional Assessment), the considered residential districts were ordered according to the level of sustainable development achieved.
