Abstract
The volume optimization problem of elastic frame construction is analyzed in this article. Tlie structure is discretized applying beam type equilibrium finite elements that can be tensioned or compressed and together bended. Cross-sections of elements are designed of steel profiles considering requirements concerning strength, stability and stiffness. A mathematical model is formulated as a linear mathematical programming problem. The algorithm of solution is presented using the mathematical programming package MATLAB symbolic calculations. Stochastic dependences between random load actions and cross-sectional characteristics obtained from the optimization procedures are studied.
