The analysis of concrete pavement application possibilities for road pavement structures
Abstract
Every year increasing traffic volumes and heavy transport loads influences faster degradation of the asphalt pavement. Flexible pavement design lifetime is 20 years and often the first failure is formed after the first years of use. According to PIARC Long-life pavement philosophy, in strategic national significance roads and high traffic urban streets pavement lifecycle period should be from 40 to 50 years. Assessing rising oil and bitumen prices and costs for road maintenance as an alternative to the Lithuanian road and street construction usability of rigid pavement structures is analysed. In this article the suitability of concrete mixture, produced in Lithuania’s concrete plant, usages in rigid pavement, mechanical characteristics dispersion analysis and statistical experimental research analysis is explored. An economic efficiency evaluation of Vilnius street section reconstruction in flexible and rigid pavement is going to be made by taking account construction and maintenance costs for 40 years exploitation period.
