Abstract

The article discusses urban and architectural renewal steps, projects and urban policy in Lithuania. Many historically valuable districts need housing renovation, modernization of residential facilities, new parking places and children playgrounds in Vilnius and all over the country. In our days, housing renovation often is spontaneous and focused on energy saving while the social, landscape, transportation problems are unsolved. Urban renewal projects and policy have neither clear programmes, strategic plans, nor vision how our housing has to look like. Also there is no any spatial development or urban planning institution in Lithuania. Such organizations as UII in Ireland or ARL in Germany are focused on urban environment research and analysis across a range of disciplines. In conclusion, successful urban regeneration in future depends on efficient cooperation among wide range of specialist, working in the fields of spatial research and development, both in theory and practice.
