Discrete element method in simulation of granular materials

Abstract

The granular material considered presents a space filled with discrete spherical visco-elastic particles, while a concept of the DEM is to track in a time simulation the motion and rotation of each particle by taking into consideration the interactions between the elements and their environment. The report presents concept and methodology of the DEM, numerical technique and issues of software implementation as well as application examples.
