The main aspects of sustainability evaluation in construction

Abstract

There are many interpretations of definition of sustainable construction, consequently the author has analysed contemporary researches on this topic. Summarizing work done it become clear that sustainable construction is a way for the building industry to move towards achieving sustainable development, taking into account environmental, social and economical issues. Sustainable construction is multidimentional subject and this causes difficulties while evaluating. Analysis of information sources shows that evaluation of sustainable construction is concerned particularly with environmental assessment of buildings. To assess construction sustainability in scale of whole industry the following was done: the system of indicators is built and, calculations by applying multiple criteria decision making methods TOPSIS and SAW is performed. According to the integrated index of construction sustainability of Lithuania the conclusion is drawn – construction performance (sustainability) is getting better.
