Demand for private security guards is rising all over the world, and the contribution of private security business to public security becomes dominant. However, in spite of the development of private security, little is known about professional competences possessed by private security guards. The present article provides research data elicited from the leading managers (experts) of a private security business concerning the evaluatiol ofcompetences. The article offers classifications ofthe security guard competences and an algorithm tbr the computation of the level of their importance. The findings shorv the distributior.r of competences falling into the categories of very impoftant, imporlant, and slightly impofiant competences.
